Historic Chapels
Skopelos Island Chapels
Skopelos is home to over 360 churches and chapels. Among these, four stand out as the most spectacular for wedding ceremonies.
Agios Ioannis
Cliff-top • 100+ stepsOne of the most magical places in Greece to say your vows — the cliff-top chapel from Mamma Mia, reached by more than a hundred steps above the Aegean. It is also one of the most demanding to arrange: the access alone means more planning, more hands, and a higher cost than a ceremony at either of our own venues. We take all of that on, working with the local partners who know the chapel best, so from where you are standing it still feels effortless.
Agioi Apostoloi
11th century • Arranged on requestDating to the 11th century — one of the oldest chapels on the island. Located right next to the Vrachos venue, making the flow from ceremony to reception seamless.
Panagitsa tou Pyrgou
At the castle • Arranged on requestThe most iconic chapel of Skopelos Town, within the castle walls. Stunning views, traditional frescoes, and carved iconostasis.
Availability for each chapel depends on the season and church calendar. Get in touch so we can discuss your wishes, guest count, and what works best for your wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a non-Greek have an Orthodox wedding in Skopelos?
In principle, an Orthodox wedding requires both partners to be baptized Orthodox Christians. If at least one is Orthodox, arrangements can often be made. AETERNA can advise on your specific situation.
What documents are needed for an Orthodox wedding?
Typically required: baptism certificates, certificate of freedom to marry from your parish, valid passports, and in some cases a civil marriage certificate. The officiating priest will provide a detailed list.
Does AETERNA coordinate the chapel ceremony?
Yes. We first discuss together which chapel fits your wishes and availability. AETERNA coordinates with the priest (directly for the chapels next to our venues, or through local partners for Agios Ioannis), assists with required documents, and organizes guest transport. We manage the entire reception at Castello or Vrachos.
